James I am going to do the same, I already have 1 person that registered from my league and 3 more prospects, but I will print some of these flyers out and pages and leave a little memo for my league as well. With all our help, we can make this a real big thing! I also cashed out as well my first tournament. This really is a great idea and thanks to Scott and Angela. Just make sure you fax or email your recaps!!! I forgot last week cuz I was busy and got disqualified-would have been really mad at myself if I did good enough to win some $$! Oh, and to Knot54 I've been better with my 10 pins but I dont know if it was because of putting my thumb in the ball first anyways, cuz all my thumbholes are bigger than my thumb. I switched to a closed grip spare ball and I've been better at it with that. My stupid white dot hooks too much to pick it up. Yeah, that's right, my plastic spare ball hooks When I flaten out my wrist for some reason I lose accuracy so it's really hard for me to throw a hard straight ball.

If you want bigger purses, the trick is to get more people in your league into VT. I'm a 140 average bowler, age 70, and I cashed the first week in a VT tournament in the 169 and under class. At league next week I'm going to print out 36 copies of the VT "Having a hard time finding a bowling tournament in your area?" sheet and put two copies on each pair of league lanes with a hand-written notation: "I cashed my first week in this tournament with a 140 average!"
I live in a remote area and few here seek out touraments due to the expense of getting there. The cost of going to tournaments nearly always involves motels that cost more than PBA entry fees. Rather than consolidating divisions we need to get out the word on the cost/benefits analysis of this sort of competition. I think it's great.

Hey Rob,
Try putting your thumb in the bowl first when you are going for the ten pins. I used to just break my wrist to pick them up but was struggling the past 3 weeks to pick them up that way. One of my fellow bowlers who is a 220 + ave. bowler told me to put my thumb in first and then your fingers. Even though it feels a little weird doing it I haven't missed a ten pin since. I think I am like 4 for 4 or 5 for 5. Let me know if this helps you or not and I will let you know if it keeps working for me.

No, this is not the case. You will be automatically placed in the correct division based on your average.

From what I understand, even if your average might be below 169 or between that and 199 you are still allowed to bowl in the higher division. Yes? I'm sure I saw somewhere Scott mentioned that. The only way for any one division to get max for a $500 first place is for lower divisions to bowl in the upper divisions.
Oh, by the way I'm willing to bowl doubles with anyone available...just enter us in one week, and I'll follow that up with the next week. Wednesday mix, Thursday Diamond, or Friday night mixed......

well thinking about that its not that good of an idea. theres people in the 170-199 class that gets in a slump and is down in that class that will blow away the 169 and under class. even with handicap. i have a current 195 avg but am a 210 bowler easy. and will be back in the 200s in next couple weeks but i dont think its fair to place ppl that are 169 and under against ppl the throw 600 scratch about every week

Well ,
After thinking about this for a few mins. I have to say I think this would be a bad idea.
As I am not a high avg bowler after being out of bowling for 4 years. I have bowled many high games in my life. However, If a person is avg 169 or lower how often are they going to roll 600's ? Hence the reason they are Avg 169 or lower. If you are in the 170 to 199 more of your bowlers are likely to hit higher scores.
So say I have a 169 avg Bowler getting 90% of 210 They get 36/37 pins a game 108 a set.
So say this bowl hits there Avg on the dot they get a 507 + 108 = 615
However, If I give a 190 avg bowler 18 pins a game. 54 a set.
If this bowler throws a 570 which is there avg . 570 + 54 = 624
I lose to the better avg bowler as I should because they have a better avg.
Plus if you think about it , If you are Avg 190 , you are more likely to throw a 600 once every 2 or 3 weeks atleast. Which means you win no matter what.
Just want I think of it.
Peace and Good Bowling

I dont think I would like that idea...I think it's good the way it is. I am working on getting some more bowlers in this, some of them may not want to get in these tournaments if that happens. I know decent bowlers that can throw a 170 every game that are around 160-170 avg but unfortunately, even if they hit or beat there avg, even with lets say 115 pins handicap they end with a 610 to 620 series still would not place in the above to cash area. I dont know if anyone pays attention, but there are some real monsters in the 170-199 division, that shoot well over 200 every game, and dont even get me started on the 200+ division, geez, 299's left and right, and tons of 250's. I wish I was that good, well, I might have a chance if I could learn how to pick up that elusive 10 pin (righty).

The thought has cross my mind to consolidate. We will see how it goes thru the end of the year.
