New Partnership for BWAA & Chuck Pezzano Scholarship Fund

The Mail A Graphic Tournament committee and the Chuck Pezzano Scholarship committee put their collective heads together and following up on a recommendation by BWAA Vice President Jim Goodwin created a new partnership with Scott Scriver and his team at VirtualTournaments.com to manage the 2010 bowling fundraiser event.

Bowlers will compete in one of three Singles Divisions this season: up to 169, 170 to 199 and 200 plus. PLUS, there will be a Doubles Tournament as well where you can double with ANYONE, ANYWHERE in the US. Handicap will be computed at 90% from the highest entered average in your division. For example if you are competing in the 170 to 199 division and the highest average entered in that division for the week was 192, you would receive 90% of the difference between your average and 192 for each game bowled.

An award will be presented to the high scratch male and female bowlers and we will continue with the popular “members’ only - bragging rights event”. The BWAA member who recruits the most number of entries will also receive special recognition. The tournament will run from February 8 – 14, 2010 and bowlers will be eligible to compete through each league in which they bowl with multiple entries.

Singles Tournament fees will be $15.00 per player, per entry of which $7.00 will be returned in prize money and $6.00 will go directly to our Chuck Pezzano Scholarship fund.

Doubles Tournament fees will be $25.00 for the team, per entry of which $12.00 will be returned in prize money and $10.00 will go directly to our Chuck Pezzano Scholarship fund.

The Mail A Graphic tournament was started by the National Women Bowling Writers in 1995 as a fundraiser for the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. BWAA and NWBW merged in 2006 and the tournament continued as a fundraiser for the Pezzano Scholarship fund, in lieu of the annual bowling event at the BWAA Convention site.

The Bowling Writers Association of America annually awards the Chuck Pezzano Scholarship to worthy recipients. The scholarship is named in honor of world renowned journalist Chuck Pezzano of Clifton, N.J. whose many tributes include being a member of both the United States Bowling Congress (formerly ABC) and Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Fames.

Qualities which are considered include academic achievement, civic involvement and bowling participation. The applicants must have a min. 2.5/4.0 GPA or equivalent, perform community service and participate in the sport of bowling, although bowling skills are not a requisite. The application must also include at least one reference letter, a school transcript and a short essay. The award winner(s) may each receive up to a $1,500 scholarship with a maximum of $3000.00 paid out each year.

Mark your calendar for the week of February 8-14 to enter the BWAA Mail A Graphic Tournament and support the Pezzano Scholarship fund.
